Purpose of The American Horticultural Society

The AHS was founded in 1922 as one of the oldest member-based gardening organizations in the country. They provide educational programs to teach new and intermediate gardeners about various horticultural processes, including planting, feeding, and making an eco-friendly garden on a budget.

They also produce several publications regarding the topic of horticulture, as well as holding award ceremonies and incorporating child education into the gardening process.

Head in for a Visit

The AHS headquarters is located at River Farm, a 25-acre historic site that was once a part of George Washington’s farmland. It overlooks the Potomac River and includes several gardens, an expansive meadow, orchard, and wildlife garden, plus a garden designed specifically for children.

You can take a tour of the grounds and admire the naturalistic beauty of miles of lush greenery. You can even book a garden party or wedding at River Farm for a beautiful and scenic gathering!
