Toyota Tacoma vs Honda Ridgeline: Engine Specs & Performance
One major difference between the Toyota Tacoma and Honda Ridgeline is that the Tacoma offers numerous engines. It comes standard with a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine, but also offers the 3.5-liter V6. The Ridgeline offers a 3.5-liter V6, and like the Tacoma, it can surpass the 270-horsepower mark. However, the Tacoma leads in torque with 265 lb-ft while the Ridgeline maxes out its torque output with 262 lb-ft. Each truck includes a 6-speed automatic transmission, but the Tacoma transmission includes intelligence, which can detect a change in terrain and driving conditions and adapt to them.
Light Pickup Truck Towing Capacity
While these trucks fit in the light pickup class, they still bring some impressive power to the forefront with their respective towing capacities. The Tacoma, when equipped with its V6 engine, can tow 6,400 lbs. The Ridgeline only tows 3,500 lbs, but when it’s equipped with AWD, its towing capacity spikes up to 5,000 lbs, making the Tacoma the more powerful, and more tow-worthy, ride in this category.
Entertainment & Technology
There’s a pretty big difference with these light pickups and their respective technology features. The Tacoma includes the 6.1-inch Entune™ touchscreen display that has voice recognition technology. The Ridgeline, on the other hand, offers a 5-inch dashboard display, with voice recognition available after a few upgrades. Each vehicle includes Bluetooth® technology for not only hands-free phone calls, but to stream audio entertainment from your paired smartphone, too. Additionally, the Tacoma includes a CD player, while the Ridgeline offers one after an upgrade.
The Toyota Tacoma even includes Toyota Safety Sense™ P, which is a collection of driver-assistance technology features. These features include the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Sway Warning System, and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. The Ridgeline does offer its own Honda Sensing® features, but only after an upgrade.
