Contact Waldorf Toyota

If you’re looking for a capable truck to add to your personal or professional fleet in the Waldorf area, you may be considering popular models like the Toyota Tundra and GMC Sierra 1500.

Both pickups bring a lot of brawn to the Saint Charles and Bowie areas, but which one goes above and beyond in improving driver comfort, safety, and convenience?

To find out, our team at Waldorf Toyota decided to compare the Tundra vs. Sierra 1500 side-by-side.

Smart Safety Features in the Tundra vs Sierra 1500

Toyota Tundra vs GMC Sierra 1500Whether you’re commuting through town, hauling a boat to the ocean, or carrying building materials to the worksite, you’re going to want to do so as safely as possible. That’s why we like that both the Toyota Tundra and GMC Sierra 1500 offer collision mitigation systems.

These include lane keeping systems that issue an alert if you’re accidentally drifting from your intended lane of travel. They also both help you monitor the road ahead for unseen hazards with forward collision systems.

The biggest difference we noticed is that the GMC Sierra 1500 offers these features as a package upgrade. Meanwhile, the Toyota Tundra makes them standard as part of the Toyota Safety Sense™ P (TSS-P) system.

The TSS-P suite includes additional features, as well, like Dynamic Radar Cruise Control that isn’t offered with the Sierra 1500.

Toyota Tundra vs GMC Sierra 1500 Interior Comparison

If you spend a lot of time behind the wheel of your truck, you’ll probably enjoy the comfortable interiors of both the Toyota Tundra and Sierra 1500. You can bring friends or family along, as well, in either pickup, since both have cabin options that seat up to six passengers.

These two-row cabins are available in shorter and longer versions. In the shorter option, both trucks give rear-seat passengers approximately 34 inches of legroom. The longer version extends the rear-seat legroom to 40.9 inches in the Sierra 1500. Passengers in the Tundra may be more comfortable with a maximum rear seat legroom of 42.3 inches.

If you need to carry more than you can fit in your truck bed, you can also use the interior space to bring along extra cargo. The rear seats in the GMC Sierra 1500 fold down to create a convenient loading area, while the rear seats in the Toyota Tundra fold up. This allows you to take advantage of the extra floor space that you won’t be able to access in the Sierra 1500.

Toyota Tundra and GMC Sierra 1500 Visibility Features

Toyota Tundra vs GMC Sierra 1500Both the Toyota Tundra and GMC Sierra 1500 offer technologies that can help improve your visibility when hitching a trailer or driving along dark roadways.

You’ll find a standard rear backup camera in both pickups, which engages when you shift into reverse. When you do, a video feed of the area directly behind your truck will appear in the infotainment display, complete with dynamic gridlines that act as a guide to help you back into a parking space or hitch a trailer.

If you do a lot of overnight driving, you might also benefit from the standard Automatic High Beams that come standard in the Toyota Tundra as part of the TSS-P system. These automatically toggle your high beams on-and-off depending on the flow of traffic during nighttime driving. This allows you to focus more on navigating dark roadways and less on adjusting your high beams.

Unfortunately, this feature isn’t offered with the GMC Sierra 1500. Want to learn more? Check out our in-depth review of the 2019 Toyota Tundra!
